The world according to Andrea

Advisor

on May 18, 2010

Last April, BEFORE I found out that I was pregnant, I signed myself up to be the Jr. Officer Advisor at Viewmont High.  Its hard to believe, but I sorta “begged” them to “let” me do it.

You see…ever since I was myself an officer, I always wanted to be an advisor for it.  I attempted to become the SBO advisor.  I am SO glad that it didn’t come to pass because just after I committed to doing it, I found out about baby number three.

It has been difficult for me to be the advisor and not the do-er.  I have tried to advise the students to get stuff done and they just don’t.  They seem to have no shame about it either.  It’s been very disappointing because I like things to be done and done well.  These kids seem to not care about much of anything except wearing neon colored Jr. committee shirts and playing cards during class time.

But, I digress.  One of our major responsibilities during the year is Prom.  It was a doosy.  I’m so glad that it’s over.

The theme was “P.S. I love you” by the Beatles.  Colors were black, silver, and light blue.  It was held at the Rice Eccles Stadium Tower.  My brother designed our posters and tickets.  My dad designed and made many of the awesome decorations.  Both of my parents stayed to chaperone as well and my mom watched Miles for me.  My two rad co-workers, Debbie and Nate (pictured above), were coerced into being ticket-takers for the evening.  Joey got out of going (this time) because he was home looking after little Nate.

Despite the fact that the refreshments didn’t show up until it was nearly 10 pm (the dance was over at 11pm), it was a huge hit.  Many students have come to tell me how awesome it was and how much fun they had.

Well, I’m glad THEY had fun.  Here are some pictures of the awesome night.

At the end of the evening, many people heard me say that I planned to quit advisor-hood on Monday.  But, if you know me, you know that I don’t quit that easily.  I have plans for what I’ll do differently for next year.
